Who We Are

Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program offers equine-assisted activities to children and adults with disabilities, youth-at-risk, military service personnel and their families.  The program is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults through the challenging, physically-active sport of horseback riding.  Disabilities can include developmental and intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, social and emotional disabilities.

Horseback riding is a physically-active sport and lesson plans include riding skills, exercise, trail or field rides and games, as well as care and grooming of the horses. Riders improve balance, coordination, muscular strength, social skills and self-confidence.

This program is accredited by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA).
