Who We Are

The Lynchburg City Commissioner of the Revenue is responsible for receiving and processing all Virginia state income tax returns and initial estimated tax payments for City of Lynchburg residents. In addition to receiving forms and payments, the office is trained in the most recent state income tax legislation. The staff offers free preparation of a Virginia income tax return on a first come first serve basis. Residents must bring a completed copy of their federal return, W2's and all supporting documentation.

Tax assistance for preparation of your Virginia income tax return generally starts the first week in February and ends on April 15 or filing day. You must bring a completed copy of your federal return, your W-2's and all supporting documents.  e-Filing is available. Bring a state-issued identification, your social security number, and any other relevant tax forms.

Assistance is also provided to help the elderly and disabled and disabled veterans to file for the relief of real estate taxes.
