Who We Are

Special Olympics is a year-round international program of Olympic-type sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, cognitive delay, or developmental disabilities.  The sports provide the athletes continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and share their friendship with the family, other athletes, and the community. Special Olympics Virginia is the state program of Special Olympics.

The Rappahannock Region consists of five areas with specific cities and counties in each area.  See the website for the sports offered in each area.

  • Area 11 consists of Caroline, Fredericksburg, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford
  • Area 17 consists of Culpeper, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock
  • Area 23 consists of Manassas, Manassas Park, and Prince William
  • Area 27 consists of Fauquier and Warrenton
  • Area 28 consists of Essex, Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond County, and Westmoreland
