Who We Are
Family Support Services is a component of the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services, Developmental Services Division.
The program provides respite care for children and young adults age 13 to 22 who are in a special education school program. The family is PALS 1 (Play and Leisure Skills). PALS 1 operates Monday through Friday from 2-5:30pm on school days and from 8:30am-5:30 pm during the summer. The program provides supervision by trained staff. Availability is dependent upon program enrollment and ability to provide for the individual's needs. Part-time enrollment is available during the winter monthly only.
Respite Reimbursement Subsidy (RRS) is provided to families who meet program eligibility and is designed to assist families with the cost of respite care in the home or community for family members with special needs ages 9 years or older.
