Respite Care for Children with Disabilities
St. Mary's Home
Who We Are
St. Mary's offer respite care for children with disabilities who need short-term care because of a family emergency or other event, such as surgery requiring intensive physical therapy. Respite is available year-round but may be of special interest during summer, when families may want to take vacations, visit relatives or devote more time to their other children — and know their child with special needs will receive the very best care.
A child or young adult in respite care receives the same services and programs as children in long-term care, including:
- clinical care by nursing staff and physical and occupational therapists
- examinations by pediatricians on staff at local hospitals
- recreational therapy and activities such as swimming in the Home’s therapy pool, kite-flying, gardening, trips to the beach, movies, shopping and other community activities.
