Who We Are
Martinsville Parks and Recreation offers a wide variety of recreational activities for children, adults and seniors. For daily updates on activities, including information on rain-outs, call the Leisure Services Information Line at 276-403-5256. The Martinsville YMCA now handles registration and scheduleing for youth athletics, co-ed adult softball. You can call that office at 276-632-6427, ext 1010 or email courtney@martinsvilleymca.com.
Parks and Recreation is responsible for maintaining eleven parks, roughly one park for every square mile of Martinsville. The City also operates a recreational facility at its reservoir outside the city limits off Figsboro Road.
The city operates a Seniors Center in a historic former synagogue. Programs include recreational activities for over 5,000 senior citizens, including art lessons, Bible study, dances, bingo, picnics, golf tournament, health fair and crafts. The Senior Center also provides public van and bus transportation to medical appointments, including physical therapy and kidney dialysis to thousands of clients.
The Senior Center provides Meal site program and plans and coordinates regular bus trips to view holiday lights, dinner theater, plays and other events.
