Who We Are
Richmond's Canal Walk is a 1.25-mile walking tour of history medallions and exhibits to learn about Richmond's riverfront history. The route follows the canal designed by George Washington and goes from Brown's Island near the National Park Service Civil War Visitor Center to just below the Turing Basin at Canal and Virginia Streets in Shockoe Slip. You can pick up a map at the Visitors' Center.
The Canal Walk is wheelchair accessible at the end of 5th Street, 12th Street, 14th Street, and 17th Street.
Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, Brown's Island is open from sunrise to sunset-except in the case of special events.
