Who We Are

Community Alternatives, Inc. (CAI) confirms the rights of every individual based on our person-centered philosophy. The residential program offers individuals with mild, moderate and severe intellectual disabilities, permanent community living within a warm and nurturing environment. CAI is committed to assuring that each individual is given choices through person-centered planning. CAI staff are well trained in assisting individuals with activities of daily living, goal development and accessing community services. The residential program provides individuals the opportunity to live in safe and secure homes throughout the Tidewater area. Each home has access to a vehicle, including wheelchair accessible vans for additional consumer support. Our homes are located within the following cities:  Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach.

Serves individuals age six and older with a primary diagnosis of developmental and intellectual disabilities, including individuals on the autism spectrum. Serves individuals with co-occurring mental health conditions. Wavier-funded services require a diagnosis of developmental, intellectual disability and/or other disabilities. A psychological test is required or proof of disability.
