Who We Are
Healthy Families is an evidence-based home visiting program that serves parents living in Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, and Lynchburg from pregnancy through the child’s fifth birthday. By offering in-home support, we cultivate positive, nurturing parent-child interactions. Our information and activities empower parents to be their children’s first teachers, promoting healthy childhood development and school readiness. Families are connected with resources in the community that strengthens overall family functioning and help parents meet their goals.
Healthy Families is a free and voluntary service that is nationally accredited by Prevent Child Abuse America. We have staff available who specialize in working with fathers, breastfeeding mothers, teen parents and Spanish-speaking families. HumanKind’s Healthy Families program is one of more than 600 Healthy Families programs serving families across the country.

Residential Care--With group homes across Virginia, more than 70 adults with intellectual disabilities are leading productive and meaningful lives in our care. We also provide safe and loving foster homes for children with identified emotional or behavioral challenges.
