Hurricane Safety and Preparedness
As most Virginians know, hurricanes are strong storms that cause life-threatening and property threatening hazards such as flooding, storm surge, high winds, and tornadoes. Preparation is the best protection against the dangers of a hurricane.
The American Red Cross provides an easy-to-use, one-page Hurricane Safety Checklist (Spanish) for the public, which includes information on knowing the difference between a hurricane watch and warning, activities you should be doing, supplies you will need to gather, and what to do after a hurricane.
