The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a nonprofit, grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy organization of consumers, families, and friends of people with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and anxiety disorders.  Emotional support, fellowship, and information for parents, relatives, and friends of those with mental illness are provided, as well as public education to reduce stigma by providing education about mental illness to the general public. Advocacy to support the rights of persons with mental illness and to work for a comprehensive, nondiscriminatory system of care for those with mental illness.



NAMI Central Virginia General Meetings take place the 2nd Thursday of every month, September thru May, at the Weinstein JCC, 5403 Monument Avenue, Richmond, VA at 7:00 p.m.   The meeting is free and open to the public.
