The goal of The Salvation Army is to meet human needs wherever it is found. Emergency assistance may be given in form of rental assistance, utility bills, transportation, medication and provision of material assistance in the way of food, clothing, household items, etc. Counseling may be offered in order to minimize reoccurrence and prevent dependency. The Salvation Army, Williamsburg location of Hampton Roads Command, has case workers challenged daily to meet the growing emergency needs of people in the community which covers the City of Williamsburg, all of James City County and the Bruton District of York County.
May be referred by county Social Service workers or the United Way, some of the local churches or self-referral. Clients may be homeless or on the verge of being homeless. There are a number of activities and resources to maximize immediate intervention.
