Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) offers temporary payments (limited to 60 months during a lifetime) to needy persons caring for related children under 18 (21 if student) who need support due to death, disability, absence of parent(s), and sometimes employment. Participants may be provided with services such as job skills training, work experience, job readiness training, child care assistance, transportation, and other work related expenses. An eligible child must be under age 18, or if 18, will graduate from high school before age 19, going to school regularly if he is between the ages of five and 18, living with a parent or other relative and a U.S. citizen or an eligible immigrant.
Eligibility Requirements: Household composition (the children must be living with a relative of a specified degree), income, resources, residency and, absent parents must be referred to the Department of Child Support Enforcement. May also be eligible for Day Care programs. Call for information on eligibility requirements and required documentation.
