Emergency Assistance, Nelson County

Nelson County Rural Outreach: Monticello Areas Community Action Agency (MACAA) serves  Nelson County through a crisis intervention program.   Direct services include food, clothing, housing assistance (to avoid foreclosure or eviction), fuel assistance or medical emergency. Clients must meet eligibility requirements (125% of Federal poverty guidelines).



Individuals served must be residents of the county. They must have a verifiable income to cover normal expenses. Clients applying for cash assistance must be able to pay a portion of the bill. Clients are eligible for cash assistance only once a year. Clients may qualify for food assistance more often than once a year.

The local Thrift shop features good, clean merchandise at reasonable prices.  All proceeds go to benefit MACAA clients at that location. Your donations to the shop are appreciated.  Call the location nearest you for hours of operation.
