The Virginia Chapter of the American Parkinson's Disease Association (APDA) was formed in Virginia Beach in 2000. The local chapter is a nonprofit organization and operates as an extension of the national APDA with all the same rights and benefits as the national APDA to conduct local charitable activities for the benefit of individuals suffering from Parkinson's or other neurological disorders. The goals are to increase the public's awareness of Parkinson's disease, provide local support groups, and raise money for research.
