Who We Are

The mission of Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LSNV) is to provide free, high quality civil legal services to low-income, elderly, or disabled individuals, who, without legal assistance, face the loss or deprivation of a critical human need such as food, shelter, medical care, income, family stability, or personal safety. LSNV seeks to provide equal access to the civil justice system for those residents of the City of Alexandria, the Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William and the cities and towns adjacent to those counties, who are unable to afford private legal counsel.

LSNV provides services in a variety of substantive civil legal areas, including family law, housing law, elder law, public benefits claims, access to health care, bankruptcy, child advocacy, employment and civil rights law, Veterans law project and consumer law,  Staff and volunteers provide legal advice, brief service, and representation in administrative hearings and in court, as well as community legal education, and advocacy before local and state governmental entities, all without charge to our clients.

LSNV has offices throughout Northern Virginia and can provide legal representation to applications living in Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax City, Falls Church, Fairfax County, Leesburg, Manassas, Prince William County, Loudoun, Herndon, Manassas Park and Vienna.   In addition, limited legal services and referrals can be to Rappahannock Legal Services for applicants living in that service area.

Arlington County residents, Income Limit. Some eligibility based on type of legal problem and not income and resources. Eligibility depends on household size and income. Serves clients whose income is restricted to 125% of federal poverty guidelines (with certain allowances).

Intake Process
Can be done by phone or in the office during normal business hours for clients who walk in without an appointement. At the time of intake, clients will be scheduled for a appointment with an attorney. Homevisits can be scheduled for clients who are bedbound. We primarily accept requests for assistance by phone (703-778-6800) from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and from 1:30 pm. to 3:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday. Telephone intake is not available on Friday.
