Recreational Facilities and Parks

Big Stone Gap Parks & Recreation operates nine community parks, with Bullitt Park being the largest. The facility includes a football field, tennis courts, fitness and biking trails, water play pad, large playground, picnic areas, pavilions and a track.

 Activities supported at our parks include walking, picnicking, camping, fishing, hunting, tennis, boating, baseball, basketball, football, soccer, fitness trails, playing, exploring our heritage, aerobics, swimming, duck feeding, and relaxing. 

Outdoor recreational opportunities are available at the Archery Range pool, Big Cherry Reservoir, Cadet Park, Carnes Gym and Field, Frog Level Park, Italy Bottom Park, Meador Coal Museum, Miner's Park, and A.K. Fraley Park.

Other attractions are Guest River Gorge, Jefferson National Forest, High Knob Recreation Area, Breaks Interstate Park and Natural Tunnel State Park. Also nearby are Abingdon (home of the Barter Theater, the five-star Martha Washington Inn, and antique and pottery shopping), and Bristol, VA/TN (location of larger shopping centers and Bristol Motor Speedway)
