Who We Are
Manassas City Department of Social Services offers the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)program. TANF is an assistance program that pays a monthly money payment to families with minor children who are in financial need to help with basic needs. Participants may be provided with services such as job skills training, work experience, job readiness training, child care assistance, transportation, and other work-related expenses. An eligible child must be under age 18, or if 18, will graduate from high school before age 19, go to school regularly if he is between the ages of five and 18, live with a parent or other relative, and a U.S. citizen or an eligible immigrant.
TANF is a program with the goal of assisting families while they are becoming self-sufficient. Unless an individual meets an exemption or caring for a child less than 18 months of age, there is a 24-month participation time limit in Virginia. Teenage parents must include their parents in a request for benefits. Eligible persons are subject to employment services participation. There are income and resource limitations.
You can apply for Benefit Programs online at CommonHelp or by telephone by calling 1-855-635-4370.
