Special Olympics is a year-round international program of Olympic-type sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, cognitive delay, or developmental disabilities. The sports provide the athletes continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and share their friendship with the family, other athletes, and the community. Special Olympics Virginia is the state program of Special Olympics.
The James River Region consists of two areas with specific cities and counties in each area. See the website for the sports offered in each area.
Area 6 consists of Amelia, Chesterfield, Goochland, New Kent, Powhatan, and West Point
