The Special Olympics provides competitions for individuals (children and adults) with cognitive disabilities. Special Olympics offers over 32 Olympic-style individual and team sports that provide meaningful training and competition opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities.
Free health screenings and health information are also offered at local, regional and world games. The "Healthy Athletes" screenings are offered in seven areas: Fit Feet (podiatry), FUNfitness (physical therapy), Health Promotion (better health and well-being), Healthy Hearing (audiology), MedFest (sports physical exam), Opening Eyes (vision) and Special Smiles (dentistry).
Project UNIFY® is another Special Olympics education-based project. It uses sports and education programs to activate young people to develop school communities where all youth are agents of change – fostering respect, dignity and advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities.
