Who We Are
Endependence Center, Inc. (ECICIL)'s advocacy group's focus is to make the community more accessible. The group advocates at the local, state, and federal levels to increase the rights of people with disabilities. Offers presentations, speakers, and consultation to individuals and groups on disability-related issues, educational advocacy, Medicaid Waivers, transportation issues, and hard. Assists persons with disabilities to access benefits. Provides disability-related advocacy--both individual and systemic.
The staff offers assistance to businesses, agencies, and individuals wishing to make their facilities or services more accessible to all consumers. Site visits are made and a written summary with recommendations for the most economical and efficient method to become more accessible is provided.
Staff will assist individuals with disabilities to understand and exercise their civil rights regarding government and other service providers. Staff members intervene with individuals, groups, agencies, organizations, and systems on issues related to an individual's rights and needs. A group meets monthly to focus on advocacy issues in the community. Subgroups are formed to work on issue areas by researching, gathering information, and collaborating as a team on the goal to achieve accessibility.
