Who We Are

Education is provided to children and youth with hearing loss throughout Virginia so they may become independent and self-sustaining.  Literacy, independence and the use of technology are critical to academic and vocational success persons with hearing impairments.  VSDB focuses on educational aspects for deaf students that may not be offered in public school.  Like public schools, VSDB follows state standards in courses that are content based.

Teachers provide direct instruction in the use of technology, including access to communication and internet information through computers, electronic software, auditory training and rehab services in areas of speech.  Access is available to Smart Boards, iPads, videophones, laptops, and visual-audio safety alarms.
