Who We Are
People with disabilities who have a valid Metro Disability Identification Card or Seniors with a Senior SmarTrip card may ride for half the peak fare on Metrorail, and for $1 cash or paying with a SmarTrip® card on regular Metrobus routes, and for a discounted fare on other participating bus service providers. Metro will issue visitors a one-time courtesy Metro Disability Identification Card good for up to one month. The Metro Disability Identification Card application is available on the website or by email from eligibility@wmata.com.
If riders are an older adult with a disability, they do not need to apply for the Metro Disability Identification Card. As an older adult, riders already qualify for reduced fares. Older adults may ride for half the peak fare on Metrorail, for $1 on regular Metrobus routes, and for a discounted fare on other participating bus service providers.
To participate in the reduced fare program, riders must present one of the following forms of valid identification:
- Metro Disability Identification Card;
- Government-issued identification with photo;
- Medicare card and photo identification.
Free orientations on how to use Metrobus and Metrorail services are available to senior citizens and people with disabilities by calling (202) 962-2700 or TTY (202) 962-2033.
