Who We Are
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church provides emergency financial assistance via interviews by Lay Assistance Ministers or referral from other churches, Arlington Safety Net organizations, AHC and APAH property managers, Arlington County DHS caseworkers, and others.
Lay Assistance Ministers authorize checks for assistance on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month. The checks are mailed on the following Friday. During the COVID-19 pandemic when face-to-face meetings with ministers is not possible, application can made by telephone to St. Mary’s or email to the address above. Once face-to-face meetings can be resumed, applicants should arrive at the church on the 2nd or 4th Wednesday of the month between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. to make an application for assistance. Applicants should have a referral letter. Applicants can receive assistance once a year and the assistance is paid on the basis of an invoice, bill, or lease that clearly shows the name and address of the creditor / Landlord.
No financial assistance is provided directly to the applicant. St. Mary’s does not deal in cash and does not use a credit card — checks only. There is an annual limit of $150 per individual or family.
Languages spoken include English and Spanish.
