Who We Are
HARK is an active ALS charity organization (501c3) that was founded by Donna Dourney York in memory of her father, Charles W. Dourney, a lifelong athlete, coach, and father of seven, who courageously battled ALS until his death in November 2009, and who was affectionately known as “Hark” by his wife Ann. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), sometimes called Lou Gehrig's disease, is a rapidly progressive, invariably fatal neurological disease that attacks the nerve cells (neurons) responsible for controlling voluntary muscles. To date, resources for ALS patients and their families have been scarce. Hark provides ALS patients and their families with all that they need to battle this disease, and the first step is to raise awareness of this disease and its devastating effects. HARK'S MISSION Hark is on a mission to share the real story of ALS and to provide a network of compassionate resources for families. Our vision is to change the way the world views ALS and to create a courageous legacy of support for families.
