Who We Are

Independence Empowerment Center offers peer counselors to assist individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities to develop and achieve independence and self-reliance. Through counseling, sharing of experiences in coping with the effects of disability and problem-solving, participants learn about the needs and resources to achieve their goal.

Independent Living Skills: Individual and group training on the know-how-to-live independently are provided in several categories including: budgeting, traveling, personal assistant management, building self-esteem, job seeking and more. All programs are designed to meet individual needs.

Advocacy: Active support for direct, nonviolent action for disability rights, both at the individual and systemic levels. Staff members train and assist individuals with disabilities to understand and exercise their civil rights regarding government and other service providers.
